still in chains
A recent visit to You Sha Deng’s saw him chain smoking hand rolled cigarettes and in a fairly friendly and conversive mood. He greeted all of us, shook our hands, and politely answered a few inquiries to his health before declaring he was tired, thus signalling to us that we should carry on our conversation somewhere else other than in his room.
The mood of the family was however heavy with discouragement even though Ah Deng was looking better because his younger brother had been involved in a brawl the night before and was still in hospital and being treated for his injuries.
